Lawrence Tech to feature 'extreme entrepreneurship'

Lawrence Technological University will hold an Extreme Entrepreneurship Tour on Tuesday, Oct. 9 at its Southfield campus.

The tour helps college and high school students think about how to turn their business ambitions into reality.

The program will run from 3-7 p.m. in S100, the Science Building auditorium, 21000 W. 10 Mile.

The free event is open to both college and high school students. They can register through the online RSVP system at www.extremetour.org.

There will be free food, prizes and the opportunity to connect with other students.
EET, which is billed as the first-ever national collegiate entrepreneurship tour, is presented by VenturePort.org and sponsored by Inc. Magazine. It was founded by two 25-year-old entrepreneurs, Michael Simmons and Sheena Lindahl.

"The vision of the tour is for all of America's college students to graduate with an entrepreneurial mind set," Simmons said. "This high-energy event will help you unleash your drive, creativity, and imagination."

The Lawrence Tech program will feature three young achievers who have made an impact on the business world by 30, as well as several local entrepreneurs.

This event is designed to provide inspiration and practical advice. Both emerging entrepreneurs and students of all disciplines are invited to learn how they can apply the entrepreneurial mind set to their lives regardless of career choice.

Lawrence Tech Associate Professor Don Carpenter said EET fits well with Lawrence Tech's motto of theory and practice, and with its emphasis on developing the leadership potential of its students.

"Lawrence Tech asks students to put into practice what they learn in the classroom and to take a leadership role whenever they can," Carpenter said. "This program will help students take the next steps toward becoming an entrepreneur."

The event also supports the mission of Lawrence Tech's Lear Entrepreneurial Center, which organizes courses, conferences and internships designed to provide entrepreneurship education focusing on inquiry, creativity and innovation.
